چکیده

hancement at the operative site may simply represent recurrent tumor. We therefore provide clinical and radiographic follow-up data on patients in whom postoperative enhancement appeared along the line of resection (Table). Late CT scan observations when considered together with the clinical course suggest the following: (1) “benign” contrast enhancement can occur after brain tumor surgery; its appearance is delayed and it disappears spontaneously; and (2) when enhancement at the operative site persists for longer than 3 to 4 months, there is increasing concern that recurrent tumor is a contributing factor. Frequent postoperative CT scans were the “methods of procedure” by which we analyzed patterns of contrast enhancement in the postoperative brain. Dr Weisberg has confused our method with our conclusion. We recommend a single postoperative scan, but we also recommend that this scan be performed on the third or fourth postoperative day. Postoperative enhancement in brain tumor patients is more than a radiological curiosity. It can mimic residual enhancing tumor leading to inappropriate treatment decisions and misinterpretations of response to treatment 123.

Comorbid bipolar disorder in Tourette's syndrome responds to the nicotinic receptor antagonist mecamylamine (Inversine).

BACKGROUND We have previously proposed that the therapeutic effect of transdermal nicotine in Tourette's syndrome may involve nicotinic receptor inactivation resulting from a prolonged continuous exposure to nicotine. In vitro studies with nicotine and preliminary positive experience with mecamylamine (Inversine), a nicotinic receptor antagonist, in the clinical treatment of Tourette's syndrome...

PET studies of the presynaptic and postsynaptic dopaminergic system in Tourette's syndrome.

Dysfunction of the dopaminergic pathway has been postulated to underlie the symptomatology of Tourette's syndrome. Presynaptic functional integrity of dopaminergic terminals was assessed with 18F-dopa PET in 10 patients with Tourette's syndrome, three of whom were drug free and seven of whom were on neuroleptic treatment. Dopamine D2 receptor site density was measured with 11C-raclopride PET in...

Clinical phenomenology of episodic rage in children with Tourette syndrome.

OBJECTIVE Episodic rage of unknown etiology causes significant morbidity in children with Tourette's syndrome (TS). Using modified Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV) criteria for intermittent explosive disorder (IED), we developed a screen and symptom questionnaire to explore rage attack phenomenology and to preliminarily investigate whether symptom clusters can iden...
